South Cumbria Primary Care Collaborative was formed in 2015 and is a federation of General Practices across South Cumbria.

Federating has given us the opportunity to work collaboratively. In doing so we can help each other work efficiently, save costs and engage with other organisations, for example, the CCG, the Hospital Trust and the Community Trust. This benefits all our patients in South Cumbria.

Working with the CCG, we have been instrumental in co-designing Enhanced Services that directly address local issues for our patients. An example of this is the Local Enhanced Service for post-operative dressings, which has given us a robust and clear system for managing this important area of our work.

Our collaboration with Lancashire North GP Federation, which is also based in Morecambe Bay and the local LMC has given all of our GPs an influence on the design and work of the new integrated organisations that are at present being set up.

Our positive engagement on behalf of our practices is having a real impact on the design of local General Practice and other services, which we believe benefits everyone in the system – GPs, partner organisations and our patients.

Collaboration is the key.
